Wallace
June 24, 2013 - September 13, 2024
Today we said goodbye to our big gentle sweetheart Wallace.
Tom, who we eventually renamed Wallace, was one of our Humane Society foster failures. He and his biological brother Bob came to temporarily hang out with us some 11 years ago and we just couldn’t let go of Wallace. We fell in love with his goofy, sweet boy self.
Wallace, Wallybear, Sir Walter Cornelius, Wally, Walter, Transcona’s favorite son, Big Bear…some of our silly boys’ nicknames over the years. Every time we left the house if we forgot to leave the tea towel out to hang on the stove he would steal it, take it to his bed and just lay with it. He wasn’t much of a cuddler, but man was he ever an adventurer. He loved to run off and explore on his own. Whatever park we were at, we could let him go and he’d run and run and run and you’d catch glimpses of him in the bushes here and there…He would always come back and find us, every single time. He especially loved Winnipeg’s cold weather and snow…those were his favorites. He was adored for his beautiful colours and long blowing-in-the-wind hair…we will miss his big tumble weed hair balls blowing across the house floors. His wispy eyebrows paraded his colourful personality and drew attention from every direction when he was out in public. Wallace was a sweetheart. A gentle giant.
Wallace was initially ousted for a few years by his late sister Zayda, who was at the time, connected at the hip with her brother Bean. When we said goodbye to Zayda, it took some time but eventually Wallace and Bean connected and formed a strong brotherly bond. They’ve spent the last 3 years without Zayda, chasing and playing with eachother, loving and cuddling with eachother. Bean is going to miss him so much.
Some of Wally’s favorite snacks were…well…basically everything! There wasn’t much he wouldn’t eat.
Thanks to everyone who has popped by to say goodbye to Wally and sent their condolences. Thanks to @brittanyjillphotograhy for the wonderful photos of Wallace. Thank you to Dr. Liz and her staff at Sunset Veterinary Care for their genuine caring and kindness during this difficult time.
Along with Wallace’s many fans; Syd, Jack, Jason and I, and his brother Bean are going to miss him dearly.
