Romeo
September 11, 2009 - February 11, 2025
You were my favourite hello and my hardest goodbye.
Romeo was a little foundling who ran up to me, in my driveway, in the dark on October 11, 2009. He was only 4 weeks old, a dump (along with his 3 siblings) from the neighbour across the street.
He was tiny and feisty. He grew to be such a beautiful boy. His fur was the softest I have ever felt on a cat; it was like plush silk. He was so smart, and could open most doors, cupboard, screens and the refrigerator freezer…. that was fun.
He loved to wake me up by knocking everything off the nightstands. He was a snuggly baby, purred so loud and a catnip addict. He was my Asperger's son's support animal, helping him through many tough times.
Though he was an indoor cat, he would come outside with us once he got older. He loved to survey and prowl “his” yard; to sleep on his cushion on the bench in the gazebo; and to hunt (and catch) the many voles! We found a true “murder scene” in our kitchen when he had snuck one of those in!
About 6 months ago, we noticed Romeo losing weight, though not a lot. By November he was becoming very sick and very thin, and we brought him to a vet on Nov 11. He had NEVER been sick a day in his over 15 years of life, so this was very distressing.
After that vet visit, we did our best for the last 3 months to keep him strong and comfortable, but the battle was lost. We made the decision, and booked his final day for Feb 11, 2025. We could not allow his suffering anymore. Though we knew it was the right thing for him to end his suffering, and our hearts are broken.
I miss you my sweet foundling. Our mighty hunter. Our mister Boops.

We do want to thank Dr Liz of Sunset Veterinary Care for her gentleness, kindness and compassion in Romeo’s last moments. Being able to have him pass where he felt safe, in our home, was the best thing for him. He will now & forever be in his beloved garden, asleep next to his gazebo.
