Lucy
Our Lucy came to us after experiencing abuse in Indiana. Thank you, Hull’s Haven!
I hope she thinks she hit the jackpot finding us – we are both ardent dog lovers and we knew she was special. It took her a while to adjust… periodically waking up with a start and ready to fight off some foe. But it didn’t take long for her to realize we were not the enemy and she began to love us, as we loved her.
We went for daily walks either in our neighbourhood or at the lake. She soon befriended other neighbourhood dogs with a wag, although not affording them too much of her sniffing time.
We slept together in the closet during thunder storms. We helped develop many routines, like lunchtime dental sticks, accompanying Bev to the bathroom, licking off the lake water from John after he came from swimming, and resting in the kitchen where the food was.
Lucy was always ready for a game and we made sure she enjoyed her last home here with us. She was an absolute delight.
She spent her last 40 years here (6 in PPL yrs). Unfortunately, during the last year or so, Lucy contracted arthritis and more recently, degenerative myelopathy accompanied with head tremors. Walking became a whole different ball game with legs just not working any more. The walks became shorter. We helped her up countless times and she was brave as she struggled to get up on her own.
Lucy passed away last week - we hope, to an even better place. She was a wonderful dog and the hole she left in our lives can be felt everywhere. We are heart-broken.
