Kruzie

January 15, 2013 - October 23, 2024

Our world was turned upside down when Kruzie was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in the Spring. Unsure of how much time he might have we pulled ourselves together, stopped the tears and doubled down. We knew we needed to make every day count. Cancer didn’t stop him from his daily routines, nor did it diminish his passions and his abiding love for his family. We followed the “Kruzie Klock” and filled everyday with gladness. We rented a waterfront cottage and took Sam, the grandgirl he grew up with, so they could swim, kayak and splash about with frogs. We literally made every day count.

True to form, Kruzie, the wonder dog, had 31 weeks of palliative care with us. Our criteria were as long as he wanted to eat, go for walks and car rides, keep his yard free from squirrels and was not in pain he was living a good life. He continued to do those things while keeping his stash pile well supplied. When his nights became difficult, he still rose every morning ready to greet the day. It was then we knew that this great heart, this enormous character, this loving and compassionate pet needed our help to say goodbye.

Wally and I and our daughter Erin and Chica, his canine companion, gathered on a wistful autumn morning. The vet came to our home in the morning, but only after Kruzie had checked his yard for squirrels, ate breakfast, had toast, had his walk and a car ride. We spent a precious two hours seeing him through to the other side …where ever that may be.

Kruzie was a triple threat.

He was enthusiastic and curious.

He was all heart, loyal and loving.

He was beautiful inside and out.

He was simply our delight.

In true Kruzie Fashion he left us with this…

“Kruzie’s Kreed”

Greet every day with enthusiasm.

Eat a good breakfast, then go for a walk.

Patrol your yard for squirrels.

Never pass up a car ride.

Be ravenous for dinner.

Have a fluffy blanket in your quiet place.

Keep a stash pile that people will visit.

You can mostly ignore, “Not for Kruz.”

Pursue your passions.

Smother your family with kisses.

Love with all your heart.

Oh Yeah... Own a good burr Brush. Life is messy.
