Rocky

January 2011 - December 2022

Today we said goodbye to our best friend and the bestest of boys, Rocky. He came into Jennie’s life nearly 12 years ago but he met the love of his life in Kyle about 10 years ago. Rocky made a very Rocky-ish first impression by humping Kyle’s leg and getting goobers all over his pants. Love at first sight.

We often said and heard that Rocky looked like he was about to speak. Unfortunately he never did but we still knew what he was thinking most of the time. Rocky’s side eye rivalled that of a teenager that’s been asked to unload the dishwasher. It was amazing to see so much judgement or love in a glance and raise of an eyebrow. Rocky didn’t have a tail to wag so he compensated by wiggling his whole body. We started calling him “wiggles” and even just saying the word would get his little nub twitching.

He was the master of cuddles and there was no mistaking when you were getting 80lbs of his love spread out on top of you. A couple of strategic scritches behind the ear would send him purring away. Rocky loved you with everything he had.

You could tell when Rocky was hungry because there was always lots of drool. And until the last couple of weeks Rocky was always hungry! Aside from cuddles, food was his favourite thing.

Our favourite place with Rocky is the cabin. He loved running through the bush in search of squirrels, grouse and bunnies. Rocky was never particularly quick or agile and bulldozed through branches to get where he wanted and his destination was always a secluded bay where he’d refuel and then launch back into the wild. He loved rides in the boat and we’ll always remember Rocky and my dad while cruising in the Pontony.

Thanks to Dr Lyle and everyone at East St Paul Animal Hospital for their years of care and compassion. A special thank you to Dr Rita and Sunset Veterinary Care for allowing us to say goodbye at home with Rocky in his favourite spot.

We’re going to miss our wiggly boy more than words can express but we’re happy to have shared wonderful years with him. Thanks for choosing and loving us Rockstar. We love you.
