Neechi
On July 30 we lost our best friend.
Neechi joined our family in 2018 but had at least 14 years of a full and happy life.
When our parents went to “just look” at small dogs at the Winnipeg Humane Society, our mom locked eyes with this big handsome boy and he came home that day. He was known then as Cowboy, but after moving in he was renamed to Neechi, which means My Friend.
After two years, Neechi moved in with us and settled into a suburban life of walks around River Park South, naps with The Girl and watching sports on tv with The Boy. We had many adventures together and weekends at the lake, thousands of kilometers of walks and daily hunts for rabbits. It was impossible to hate winter with Neechi around, and we will always be thankful for him taking us outside no matter what the weather. Naps in blizzards are the best!
Our neighbours had many names for him – Happy Boy, Teddy Bear, Fluffy Dog, Snow Dog – and he would bring a smile to everyone who saw him trotting by.
Neechi was an international man of mystery, and we will never know all the things he accomplished before blessing us with his friendship. Perhaps an international spy, or perhaps a pastry chef in France. To us he was our best buddy and a true friend. Our lives are better for having had these past few years together.
Neechi will be sorely missed by the whole neighbourhood who saw us more and more regularly as the years slowed his pace and decreased the distance of our walks. The sadness and emptiness we feel today is overwhelming, but we are happy to know he is free from pain and chasing rabbits again.
We love you buddy. Forever and for always. ❤️
