Merry
June 2005 - December 7, 2021
Merry came into our home as a foster kitten. The plan was to keep her temporarily, just until she recovered from the upper respiratory infection she had picked up at the shelter. However, she wormed her way into our hearts. Before we knew it we'd decided to adopt her, which proved to be one of the best decisions we've ever made.
Merry had a way of winning others over in a very short amount of time. We had "non-cat" friends and family who instantly took a liking to her, crawling down to floor level just to play with her and pet her belly. She also got along spectacularly with other cats, and she easily made friends with other fosters we were caring for.
Her loves included making sure we were clean behind the ears, sticking her face in our water glasses to make sure our drinks were cold enough, lounging in sunbeams and on warm radiators, decimating her feather toy, and being a part of whatever we were doing. She supervised several Ikea build projects, assisted with folding clothes and making the bed, and observed the goings-on in the house while dangling her long legs over the edge of a high perch. She was also the only one of our cats to go viral, in a picture of her spying on us from behind a bundle of swiss chard. But in recent years, her favourite activity was curling up on the couch between us to watch some TV.
Merry, you've left a huge hole on our hearts and in our home. Sixteen happy years did not seem like nearly enough time, but we feel lucky to have known you. Please tell your sister Belladonna that we miss her, and know that we love you and miss you every single day.
