Martini

2005-2022

When we were engaged in 2005, we found Martini at the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter. He was just a lil fur ball. His cat mom had been pregnant and hiding when her family moved homes - the new owners found her stuck in the venting with breathing troubles. Martini was born with breathing troubles too - but that didn’t stop him from thriving!

He grew big enough to fill an entire stair on the staircase!

Martini was a handsome devil. A typical cat he wanted attention until he didn’t - then watch out!

He really wanted to get along with my cat Ms. Thang but she never learned to share me or our home. (Although she was OK with Brent.)

He loved his cat condo. His favourite toy was Mous-apus. He insisted on Temptations several times a day.

He had lots of cat-itude and gave good cuddles. He would break up any perceived “petting” between Brent and me.

He mellowed later in life and genuinely loved our daughters when they arrived. He got friendly with their pet guinea pigs. He even tolerated their new kittens when they arrived this fall.

He didn’t mellow entirely - so we had two pre-schoolers running around repeating “Martini no humping!”

He took over Ms. Thang’s chair at the dinner table when she passed. Meal time isn’t nearly as entertaining without them.

There is a Martini-sized hole in my heart now. I hope he and Ms. Thang are finally besties in cat heaven.
