Hailey
Hailey…
It has been 56 days since you’ve been gone. Your collar and footprint are by the fireplace where you slept. Mabel, Pinky and Fiona still sniff it when they walk by. For two weeks Pinky slept in your spot and meowed for you. But eventually she started sleeping in her regular spot and we stopped crying. Now I can look at your picture and smile.
We even have a new girl named Molly. She is the total opposite of you. She’s scared, anxious and hasn’t had the best life. She’s still learning to trust humans. In your honour we will love her, keep her safe and give her the life she should have always had.
Dad got me a card with your picture that I can carry in my wallet. It was the best gift ever. I showed everyone! It’s my favourite picture of you with your tongue sticking out.
Dad and Mabel have been spending lots of time together, going for walks, the house is still too quiet.
Of course, Joey loves the cats and even Molly. But it’s not the same. He will never be their boy. He will always be yours.
You are the sweetest, gentlest soul I have ever known. What an honour it was to have had you in our lives.
Love you sweet girl,
Mom
