Finnigan

2010-2022

Finnigan came into our lives when we met him at Animal Services on a miserably cold and wet November day in 2010. He had been a stray pup, about 8-10 weeks old, apprehended in Winnipeg's North End, running with his sister. He was in very rough shape - skinny, dirty, missing part of one ear, and extremely skeptical of being inside a building. We fell in love with him immediately, and brought him home that day.

He had no idea what it meant to have a warm soft bed of his own, toys, and all the food and water he could ever want. It took a while for him to learn that he was safe and loved, but once he did, there was no looking back. Finnigan grew into a 100 lb, magnificently strong and handsome adult dog, with the softest ears and most expressive eyebrows.

He was loyal, protective, and learned to play in his own way which was mostly bringing a toy and then teasing with it, before prancing away with it triumphantly.

Finnigan walked thousands of miles with us, hiked Hunt Lake Trail, and camped at Falcon Lake for many summers (even though he really didn't like camping, he humored us). He was most at home and happiest in his back yard, his kingdom, barking at squirrels, chasing bumble bees, and eating wasps.

Finnigan was healthy until 2019 when he was diagnosed with Cushings Disease. We did everything we could for him, and in his last 9 months when he was also suffering from Colitis, he really began to struggle with mobility. He was tired, and it became clear to us that it was time for him to embark on the next part of his life's journey.

Finnigan left us on November 1, gently and peacefully, surrounded by love and light, soft music, and gratitude for giving us the privilege of having been his guardians these past 12 years. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nash, Dr. Rita, and Nicole for their compassion, support and professionalism.

Love you forever, Mr. Puppy. See you at the Bridge.
