Draco

Draco

July 2003 - December 2021

Draco was rescued as a kitten at Animal Control in New Westminster, BC as part of a litter found in a house. He lived a full life in 4 cities and 2 provinces.

Always the ‘little cat’, Draco has had many dog and cat step-siblings over the years including Oscar, Maui, Chewie and Butters.

Draco has always been one to seek adventure and tried to use up most of his 9 lives. This included climbing on the roof of our townhouse to bring bees back for us from a hive on the roof. There was the cat across the way who would climb over the roof to play with Draco on our balcony, where they would sit, watching for crows and squirrels. Draco also had a penchant for jumping on railing flower pots, and falling 2 stories down unscathed. There was also the time he got lost in the air vents of our house for two days when we replaced the flooring, only coming out when we lured him with canned tuna.

He was my companion when we drove home across the prairies, helping me navigate Highway 1 and listening to me sing songs from the radio.

When we moved back to Winnipeg, we still called him the little cat even though he was an old man by now. He loved to cuddle and demanded attention in the evenings when we watched TV, sitting right on whatever device you held in your hand. He also knew when it was bedtime and when he meowed around 9:30pm, the dog knew it was time to go outside then go to bed.

He spent most of his last days in our south-facing family room window getting as hot as he could in the sunshine. When that wasn’t available, he’d meow for his heating pad to be turned on or sit on the heat vents.

He’s been our constant for so long, we will miss him dearly. Goodbye little cat, I’m glad you had such a great life. 🌈
