Three Years of Sunset Veterinary Care
I am so thankful to announce our third anniversary at Sunset Veterinary Care.
This past year has been quite the whirlwind around here.
Last fall I helped my friend say goodbye to her dog Joker, who happened to be my dog Jack’s littermate. It was an absolute honour to be with him, but put Jack’s mortality into perspective. I went through a period of grief for Joker, but also of immense anticipatory grief for my Jack’s passing. Jack is fortunately still with us at age 14, but his health is on a definite decline. I did a DNA test earlier this year and found out he is 100% Alaskan-type Husky, but a village dog. I am currently in a position so many of the families we help find themselves – when do we say goodbye? What are the markers of a poor quality-of-life for Jack? What is the ideal passing from his viewpoint, but also from ours? Perhaps more on this topic is to come, as I expect so many of you can relate.
In January my family welcomed our second son and he has been an absolute joy. I have been discovering the excitement, but difficulties, in having two young children, three senior dogs, and one small business. I cannot imagine doing anything else as a career, but I have had to take a significant step back from appointments while caring for my kiddos. While you may be less likely to see me in your home, I am always in the background completing the little tasks that keep a small business going.
I am extremely grateful to my team – Nicole, Dr. Rita McKay and Dr. Nash Zloty – for continuing to offer amazing care to our dog and cat patients and comfort to our clients. I am so thankful to be surrounded by such dedicated, kind, thoughtful individuals.
We have been fortunate to help hundreds families all over Winnipeg. From Windsor Park to Charleswood, from Bridgwater to Rivergrove, and from Transcona to the Maples – we cover it all. Many of the families we assisted in this past year submitted photos to our annual memorial video which can be found here.
We were thrilled to take part in the Manitoba Pet Expo this past June hosted by the Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba. It was so wonderful to meet so many of you and to be reunited with past clients. We hope to see everyone again next year.
Finally, I wanted to say the continued support we receive from the veterinary community and from the animal-loving community is so touching. We would not be able to continue to provide the same level of care without the word-of-mouth reviews and sharing of your personal experiences. Thank you.
